Core Beliefs

The Teal Movement is guided by the following core beliefs:

I. Responsibility

Those blessed with a high level of education and above average resources have a duty, if they are able, to keep their children in public school and use those benefits to promote the interests of all children in the public schools.

II. Civility

Among our highest duties to our children is to be the best role models we can be. We therefore strive to conduct ourselves according to the highest standards or decorum, civility and respect, especially to those who oppose us.

III. Non-Partisan

The values we seek to vindicate are universal, consequently our efforts are fundamentally non-partisan.

IV. If Parents Don’t Have the Power to Protect Their Children, Nobody Will

  • Inside the classroom, parents trust teachers to make the well-being of their children their highest priority, and SCUSD teachers have overwhelmingly proved worthy of that trust.

  • Outside of the classroom, however, it is not reasonable to expect teachers to make the well-being of our children their highest priority, it is right and appropriate for teachers and their unions to prioritize their interests above others.

  • In all cases, without exception, it is right and appropriate for parents to make the well-being of their children their highest priority, to prioritize their interests over all others, and to have the power to protect those interests.
